fade is best, the left and right channels down at the same time. If you are broadcasting in stereo you can use hard left and hard right fades which pan the left and right channels differently to create a cross fading effect. In a hard left fade the left channel fades faster than the right and similarly in a hard right fade the right channel fades faster then the left - hence you get a panning effect. You should listen to each type and set this to your taste for your format. You can also turn fading off completely.
